# Past due and suspension

A failed payment pauses the paid features at once and deletes nothing. A suspension is something Data Tactical Group does, for a stated reason, and only it can lift.

## The short answer

When a payment fails, the organization is **past due** straight away. County detail, file export, API keys and cluster editing pause for everyone in it; nation and state figures remain. Nothing is deleted and nothing bought is taken back. Everything returns the moment a payment succeeds. The card is also retried automatically. If the balance is still unpaid after the grace period, the subscription ends and the organization drops to Free.

## What you see

The Billing screen carries a **Past due · paused** notice with the amount outstanding and how many days service has been paused, and three actions: **Pay the open invoice now**, **Update payment method** and a link to the invoice. The explorer and the areas picker say that service is paused until the balance is settled. Owners, admins and billing contacts are emailed when the payment fails.

## Settling it

Only the owner or a billing contact can change the card or pay. Update the payment method if the card has expired or been replaced, then choose **Pay the open invoice now**. A successful payment lifts the pause for everyone at once and the screen says so. If a purchase, such as more seats or counties, is declined, the change is kept and the organization is past due until it is paid.

## If it is not settled

After the grace period, the subscription ends and the organization drops to Free. Its counties are read-locked, not deleted, and members above the free seat count become free members. Its clusters, workspaces and billing history stay. Choosing a plan again restores what the plan covers. An email confirms the change.

## Suspension

Data Tactical Group can suspend an organization under the Terms, for a reason it gives. While it is suspended, every member’s sessions end, its API keys stop working and nobody can reach it; memberships, data and the subscription are untouched, and billing continues. The owner and billing contacts are emailed with the reason. Only Data Tactical Group support can lift a suspension; [ask for help](/support). If a suspension turns out to have been unfounded, the subscription fees for the suspended days are credited to the next invoice, prorated by the day.

A suspended organization does not affect anyone’s own account: each person can still sign in to their other organizations.
