Occupation values

Every occupation value is a DTG estimate built on survey sources and DTG's industry data. There is nothing published at value level to mark it against.

The short answer

Industry values come from a census, QCEW, so each one is either the value BLS published or an estimate of one BLS withheld, and the app marks which. Occupation values have no such census beneath them: they are built from DTG’s industry employment, the national industry-occupation matrix and the OEWS survey. So an occupation value carries no disclosure mark, no reliability score and no restatement flag, in the app, in exports or in the API. That is a property of the data, not a gap in the display.

What the app shows instead

Choosing Occupation (SOC) as the domain, the menu says it carries “no value-level provenance”. The key strip under an occupation table says so too, and says from which period values are carried forward or projected. A row’s details show whether a period is historic, carried forward or projected, and name the sources. The CSV export and the API leave the disclosure and reliability fields off occupation rows.

Pay

Occupation pay is reported per worker: average annual pay on an annual view, average quarterly pay on a quarterly view. It is never the total wage bill.

Reading occupation figures

Occupations sum through the classification, but not every broad occupation splits into detailed occupations, so detailed occupations alone recover less than the total; read each level against its own parent. Early-year occupation figures are re-derived each release from the earliest staffing patterns available, so they can move between vintages.

How occupation figures are built is on the methodology’s occupation data page. Industry marks are on disclosure flags on screen.
