Signing up
An account is free, needs a verified email address and a password, and creates an organization for you at the same time.
The short answer
Choose Start free and enter your full name, a work email, a name for your organization and a password of at least ten characters, and pass the bot check. A verification link is sent to the address you gave; the account works once you follow it, and the link can be used once. No card is asked for at any point.
Your organization
Every account belongs to an organization, even a solo one, because plans, counties, clusters and API keys belong to the organization rather than to a person. The organization named at sign-up is yours and you are its owner. If you were invited, follow the invitation link instead: the account is created already verified and joins that organization.
If a colleague’s organization has verified your email domain, you are shown it at first sign-in and can ask to join, or join at once, depending on how that organization is set up. You keep your own organization either way. The roles are on organizations and members.
Signing in
Sign-in is by email and password. Each sign-in has one active session, so signing in on a second device signs the first out. Two-factor authentication with an authenticator app is optional and personal; turn it on under Your account → Security. Product news is a box you can tick or leave; account, billing and security messages are sent regardless.

What the free account includes is on the free tier. Sessions, two-factor and password resets are on account security.
